8 YR OLD / 11.2 / 12 HANDS / GRADE GELDING
HACKNEY PONY / POA CROSS
This sweet boy has been with me for about 2.5 yrs now. i got him from a load of abandoned ponies heading to the kill pen. he was an untouched 6 year old stallion. he has since been just about anywhere you could imagine.... (read more) i started really slow with him and eventually we are where we are today. i take him hiking with the dogs and throw some packs on him, or if i get tired i hop on and ride bareback all up through the hills and wooded areas. he has been camping and loves it he absolutely loves to go swimming. you can tie him on a lunge line or rope and he just eats grass and chills out. he is extremely athletic and has a lot of fiesty pony in him. i ride him in a western saddle or bareback pad/english pads, but i dont ride him very long under saddle mostly only for training purposes and going to local play days to mess around, because he isnt that big. he is not a dead head, he is also not for a beginner rider. he excels in hunt / jump sport and can trail ride / hack for hours and hours and lead or follow large horses. When im training dogs they run next to him on a leash through the trails close and far and he is used to that now. swimming with dogs is also a fan of his.he is fast, that is not an understatement. he stays barefoot and is trimmed according to his breed. i have put boots on him but he has been in very rocky / slippery terrain with no shoes at all and never have problems. he loves racing larger horses in the pastures. and stalls amazing. hes quite independent and does his own thing, but if he gets attacked by large horses he stands his ground or just takes off running, if they leave him alone he coexists with mares/ geldings perfectly. he is very fond of little people and is a bit insecure with large people, meaning he will put his head down to the ground for kids but if you try to stand over him and man handle him he sometimes but not always back away at first. i work him in roundpens with natural horsemanship methods and he is extremely responsive to his ques. he walks on the horse walker daily and currently gets his couple times a week baths. he is my clip art practice dummy/model so he is around clippers a lot. i can turn him loose in any yard and he pretty much will just stick around and eat, easy to catch anywhere. he can be the sweetest boy when he stands still for hours while i practice my braiding skills. i pony large horses off him occasionally and he doesnt care. ride in a english bridle with eggbutt snaffle or i ride in a rope halter. he flexes both sides and collects like an champion, and backs up on voice command. he will change speeds through verbal command as well.i would like to see him go to an english riding / or lesson program. and would probably rehome very cheap to well known english riding program. he is an easy keeper as he is a pony, but i keep him in really good shape. he wears different blankets/sheets year round so that isnt new to him. he has that pony fire sometimes but honestly its probably because he has seen a whole lot but he hasnt ‘seen it all’ yet. i had an incident about a month ago when i knew the saddle started pinching him but he didnt seem in too much pain but i think he was giving warnings and he tossed me off but when i went back to bareback pad he never was bothered again. it has been the only time he has ever done something like that! so that was all on me i beleive and the strength of this pony is immense because he holds all this weight and the saddle and can still go through all his speeds. i can only imagine how fast he would go with a smaller person. my niece gets leadline ponied on him sometimes but we dont turn her loose on him because she is a beginner and she has a humongous ottb she rides around lol . he has been to parades and gets all decked out for events. he honestly has put up with a lot!! but because of his size i cannot push him to his potential and i weigh too much for him even without a 50 pound western saddle. now i am in full time college and work and its time he goes somewhere that he can be someones great pony! and he is very well taken care of just like all of the animals i work with. he’s had chiropractic and dental work on schedule and vaccinations and farrier all stay up to date.an amazing home is a must , and a riding program or someone who is actually going to use him would be his best fit. i am willing to travel anywhere in the states to take him to the perfect home with help on cost of fuel. his rehoming fee is negotiable depending on home and experience with ponies. twenty-3 hundred
can ship to any us state at cost of fuel.
