Sweet grey gelding ready to get up and get out riding more. Torrez is a 14.2 hh Quarter Horse/Arabian cross with a nice large athletic build . He is apx. 8-9 years old. Up to date on coggins, vaccines, deworming, and with the farrier. Please read entire ad.
He has been one of my favorite horses, I am considering selling him to someone who can give him more love and time out and about. We recently moved to Mississippi after our daughter was born and I just haven't had the time to ride him like he and I want to, we are still working on getting our new property set up and I don't really have a good place to ride right now.... (read more) I started him under saddle when I got him 2 years ago, I even lightly rode him while pregnant until I was put on bedrest due to preterm labor.
He is easy to catch, stands to be groomed (still working on desensitizing to fly spray), stands for the farrier, loads in my gooseneck well, when bathing he'll freak out at first but I just go slow and easy and then he does fine after that. We've practiced lots of groundwork. He's only ever been ridden around our property, I would love to try him in an actual arena or out on some longer trails. I've only ever ridden him in a hackamore but have been getting him used to a bit and bridle. He has been ridden english, western and bareback. He is very light in the saddle and sensitive to commands, he neck reins, yields to leg pressure well, has a whoa you could only dream of, just sit back and say whoa. He's a very comfortable ride, he's just ready for someone that can add some miles with him now. He is great with dogs, baby screaming, all the baby gear, etc. We also just got all the pine trees on our property cleared and he did great with all of the large loud equipment and trees falling down all around him (I have photos and videos). He is a very sweet and kind horse that just needs his person, once he bonds with you, he will give his heart for you.
Torrez needs a confident intermediate rider or greater and would prefer a female unless a male was very calm and laid back. I will not sell him to a beginner or a child, although in a couple years he could eventually be great with both. Prior to me getting him, he had rough past and you can definitely see he fears men especially or anyone that comes off rough or rushed. He can be jumpy with new things or if you are too forceful on the ground with him. He'll occasionally eyeball things, but I just go introduce him to whatever he's eyeballing and he does fine. When I first got him he had pretty bad anxiety and panic attacks, never did anything bad just stands with his head upright breathing heavily with his heart beating out of his chest but I'd go slow and reassure him and he'd do just fine. Now we rarely have flare ups. If he ever does get a lil anxious I like to do some ground work and that seems to help a lot. I have had no issues with buck, bite, bolt, kick, or rear. The only thing I'd mention is if I haven't ridden regularly and I ask him to canter he'll get excited and lower his head and act like he wants to do a lil "I'm excited baby buck" but he has never actually bucked and all I have to do is tell him whoa and then ask again and he's fine.
He will only go to an approved home that practices natural horsemanship techniques and I would like to have pictures of where he'd be going. I do not need to sell him, I am patient to find the perfect fit. Torrez will need to approve a possible new owner during a meet and greet as well. Please feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns and for more pictures or videos. Located in Laurel, MS. Asking $1,850 cash only.
