Meet Dakota, he is a gorgeous 15 hand registered paint gelding. Dakota is 16 years old and built right. I have owned him for 11 years and have decided to sell him as I am looking for a younger horse to compete on.
Dakota is the horse that will come running as soon as you call him. He loves to be rubbed on, brushed and given attention. He is naturally curious and intelligent which has made it easy to train him and introduce him to new things.... (read more) He is not spooky AT ALL. I have dragged tarps and barrels off him and thrown ropes and tarps over him and he isn't bothered by anything. Dakota has a very thourough knowledge of good groundwork. He is respectful being led, you can send him over obstacles, and will work obediently around you at liberty in the round pen and anywhere on line.
I am selling him only as a walk trot horse because he has navicular disease in his front hooves. He can lope but it is not comfortable for him for very long. The vet has cleared him to ride, but he will always have a bit of a limp. We keep him is shod in the front to keep him comfortable and helps him move out easier. In spite of his condition he is incredible smooth and comfortable. He is ridden mostly in a halter and gives softly to pressure but he can also be ridden in a bit.
He tends to be a bit buddy sour so has a hard time riding away from his friends but does fine if trailered away or ridden in a group. With a little bit of work he will do great either way I just don’t have the time to put in that he deserves. Would make a great camp horse for just walking down the trail with multiple horses.
I have ridden him bareback with my two year old sister on with me and will put beginners on him to learn the basics.
He is great to bathe, saddle, stands for the farrier, and loads in the trailer well.
