13 year old, 16 hand stocky paint gelding. 1,264 pounds (vet scale). Some limitations but a very nice ride. Would make a fantastic husband horse.
Here’s the good stuff:
Toby has a very friendly puppydog personality. Super smooth trot. No cribbing or other vices, gets along great with geldings or mares – ranks low in the pecking order, despite his size. More whoa than go. Loads on the trailer with no issues and stands well for vet and farrier.... (read more)
Has been on a hunter pace, a night ride with the hunt club, some trail/obstacle challenge shows, tobacco trail, a trail clinic, and a couple of schooling shows with me. He was a gentleman for all of those. Crosses water fine. Doesn’t mind dogs. Can be a little “looky” at times but the more you ride him the better he does.
He’s a very easy keeper. And he’s nice to look at.
Toby has DSLD, a genetic condition that makes his suspensory ligaments a little too loose. This causes weakness in the fetlocks so he struggles to canter and should probably not be asked to do so. Obviously, he cannot jump, either.
My vet says he is well suited to many years of trail riding walk/trot. His jog is super smooth!
He should be ridden on fairly firm surfaces, like shallow sand or grass. Avoid very deep sand.
He’s currently barefoot but the vet recommended shoes. He also said to ride with support boots on the hind, which I have an they will go with him.
Asking $2000 as he is a very good boy and has lots of useful years left with a rider whose expectations are aligned with his abilities.
