Sage is 20 years old, 13 hh, sane, and sound Halflinger-cross pony mare. (We suspect the other half is Quarter Pony, but don't know for sure.) Sage was originally trained as a cart pony by the Amish and will not break into a canter while under saddle. (Three trainers tried to get her to canter and three trainers failed.) However, she can and does canter (and gallop) when at liberty in the pasture. This pony is SOUND, but walk-trot only.
Sage has been on trails and proven herself sensible and surefooted.... (read more) She wasn't spooky at all. She can be ridden western and excels as a walk-trot dressage pony. Need a true extended trot? She can do that. She tucks her head and does her job. She's been out of regular work (my younger son outgrew her), so she'll need a week or two of regular work to regain that wonderful work ethic. This is a true gem of a pony and makes a terrific mount for 4-H. (The photo shown here was taken in 2018. Sage was being ridden western for 4-H.)
She's an easy keeper: we do not feed her any grain or other concentrated feed. She's been primarily ridden by timid riders and done well with them. This is a sturdy pony large enough for a small adult or to accommodate a growing child. She comes with two dressage saddles (14" Kieffer Munchen, 16" Stubben), stirrup irons, dressage bridle with 4-1/2" snaffle bit, and custom 4-1/2" western curb bit.
