THE SHORT ELEVATOR PITCH:
Beauty is true to her name- she is a truly gorgeous, spirited thoroughbred mare, with a lot of personality.
Beauty would be perfect for a confident rider looking for a big, sweet (sassy) pet to love on and build a strong personal relationship with. Beauty is on track to make a great lower level dressage prospect, with flowy showmanship and a gorgeous look. She truly is a joy to ride once she warms up to her rider and feels relaxed.... OK I'M INTRIGUED, WHAT'S HER STORY?
After a full racing career, Beauty foaled two babies before starting back under saddle in 2015. Since I have had her (about a year now), I have had zero soundness issues, and her previous owners both reported the same. She is in great health, as sound as they come, and at 14, she is just as spunky and lively as the youngsters. When I did a lameness evaluation with one of the best vets in the area, he told me, direct quote, "you bought yourself an athlete!".
WHY IS SHE FOR SALE?
The only challenge with having such an athletic animal is that she needs a LOT of exercise and a significant time commitment to support her growth. Therefore, we are not perfectly matched at this time in our lives because I want to do more work in eventing, and I have less time for training her because of my work schedule.
I HAVE QUESTIONS! IS SHE WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR??
Beauty is best suited for an experienced rider with steady hands and a balanced seat, as she is hot under saddle. She also seems to really enjoy ground work and would be a great prospect for someone interested in embarking on a natural horsemanship connection with a special horse.
A good partner for Beauty would be someone looking for an emotional connection with their horse that is patient and invested in their growth as a partnership. She is quite talented when she is relaxed, but she is very sensitive and responsive to human emotional states (which I found to be really cool , and almost spiritual).
Additionally, she definitely likes "her" people, and can be quite affectionate once she gets to know you well. While spirited and fairly anxious at times, she doesn't have an aggressive or mean bone in her body. She has never tried to injure anyone in any way. She really tries hard to please.
WHAT IS HER CURRENT TRAINING PROGRAM? WHAT CAN SHE DO??
Right now a typical riding day for us involves starting with lunging W/T/C, and then W/T work under saddle, with canter work on exceptionally good days, and in good weather. She can canter fine physically (though her leads need some work), and we were doing much more canter work in the summer. She just needs more time in the saddle to help her burn off excess energy. With my time constraints, I've found it more productive for both involved to do canter work from the ground until we have really mastered the W/T. It seems to be working for her though, because she now comes round quite nicely and has a really beautiful flowing trot. Now, we are just working on relaxation and consistency.
WHAT ABOUT JUMPING? EVENTING? TRAIL RIDING?
The jury is still out on if Jumping is in the cards for Beauty. Physically she could totally excel at jumping, and her previous owner claims she showed a love for jumping. However, I opted to hold off on jumping training until more basics were mastered, due to her anxiety levels. But then winter came so we haven't gotten to experiment with it as much.
What is certain is that she needs time to adjust to change, and so I expect this would be true for jumps and other things like water pools, etc. But the more time under saddle or in exercise, the better she goes. She isn't a "trail ride on sundays" horse, but she really is a beautiful horse with a lot to give someone looking for a fun connection challenge/project :) Like I said- I love this horse! I wish I had more time to bring her along.
OKAY, I'M STILL READING, WHAT IS THE FINE PRINT?
She is located in southern Rougemont, NC and for sale for $900. Alternatively, she is also available for a free on-site partial lease to the right person (with the understanding the lease is in support of keeping her in shape for sale). This agreement would permit use of Beauty for as many days/week as this person would be interested in, with the contingency that they participate in 3+ lessons/month on Beauty with our trainer ($60/lesson). A trial lesson would determine if this arrangement would be a good fit for both parties.
