I have a 7 yr old gaited saddle horse gelding named Winchester for sale. He's about 14.2 hands high. I got him as a pasture mate for my pony a little under a year ago but I've been gone for 7 months and have decided to move permanently.
His ground manners are perfect! He's always the first to meet you at the fence and he's very vocal about seeing you. He never gets pushy and is very respectful of your space. He stands for the farrier, loads himself, and gets along well with other animals.... (read more) Everything about his demeanor on the ground is slow, gentle, and kind of sleepy.
I rode him extensively before I moved and he did wonderfully. We rode over obstacles, through mountains, through chest deep creeks, and down all the back roads. He hates going out by himself but he's never given me any trouble in a group. He's like a sleepy quarter horse on the ground but I recommend an experienced rider in the saddle because he wakes right up. I wouldn't hesitate to put intermediate riders on him once he's been reintroduced to regular riding. My only concern is that he hasn't been touched since January until I took those pics last week for this ad. Even then, he stood perfectly for the saddle and waited for me to mount and get me feet situated before he started walking. He just needs to be put back on the trails for a few weeks.
His gait is very reliable and you don't have to constantly adjust to keep him in it. It's smooth and steady. He even does it on his own in the pasture.
Overall, he's a very sweet boy who's come a long way from when I got him. His weight is still improving by the week and his eyes get brighter by the day. He will only go to a home that will continue the gentle methods that I've got him accustomed to. Patience and kindness are the key to this horse. He shuts down completely at the first sign of harshness.
