Pokey is an experienced trail pony he has had many hours on the trail. We got him for our kids when they were just toddlers about 4 yrs ago. Before we had him the people had a pony ride business for birthdays and fairs. The kids have grown up with him but are now ready for the big horses.
We ponied Pokey behind our horses before they could ride by themselves.... (read more) So he is used to being lead all over. He is direct reined and needs an experienced child rider as he does try to test the youngsters, as most ponies do. The kids have to know what to do to make him go. But has no buck or spook. I can ride him and I'm a medium size women when he needs a tune-up. He is a great size pony because you can do this when he needs it, not a small shetland size.
On the trail he walks out nicely and can keep up with the big horses. He doesn't get tired quickly he can go for hours he has a big heart. He will go through water (loves to play in it), not spooky, will go over bridges, up/down stairs, rocky terrain, etc. He loads up in the trailer great no fuss. We also have cows and he really enjoys moving them around. I think he feels like a big horse. You can use the clippers on him he doesn't mind. We only shoe him when we are going on rocky trails. He does currently have shoes on. He is up-to-date on all vaccines and is on a regular deworming schedule.
He is a great little pony that is safe and fun for the kids to ride. He isn't a fancy show or arena type pony. So if you are looking for that, he is probably not it. But if you want a well rounded trail pony he is just that. If you are really serious and interested in seeing him please contact me. Some short videos upon request.
