American Saddlebreds; 5-gaited, 3-gaited, Harness, Pleasure & Equitation
Horsemanship involves developing a relationship with your horse through riding and training. As with all successful animal training methods, there is an emphasis on timing, feel, and consistency from the handler. We at La Fleur like to emphasize the importance of horsemanship in the success of one's riding experience.
Equitation refers to a rider's position while mounted and encompasses a rider's ability to ride correctly. It is the learning and perfecting of both the physical side of riding--balance, hand control, body position, foot position, stamina, strength-- and the mental side, which involves grace, poise, intellect, and "feel" that is necessary for exacting the maximum possible performance from a horse. Judging criteria covers the rider's performance and control of the horse, use of riding aids, proper attire, and correct form, and usually factor in rider poise and the cleanliness and polish of the horse, rider, and equipment.
