I am 19 years old and have been around livestock all my life. I have been training horses since I was 14. I have broke and trained several different types of horses. I first started training under my friend and mentor of whom is 80 years old and has many years of knowledge and experience. I currently hold 11 endorsements from Dennis Reis. It usually takes me 2 weeks of ground work to get a common horse ready for the trails and a minimum 2 weeks in the saddle before it is ready to take on a new rider. I believe it takes consistent riding with a lot of miles on different terrain to finish a horse out. If weather permits I ride 5 days a week, one hour a day and some rides will be with 2 horses over 10 to 16 miles I will switch out on riding each one so they will learn how to pony to help keep from spooking so much. We will cross creeks, rivers, ride in the woods, along highways, and county roads. When I finish the horse it has been exposed to traffic and anything else that might spook a horse while riding. We do some night riding also. I prefer to ride in the spring, summer, and fall due to weather, but I do train year round, it just takes longer in winter due to the weather being a little hard on the horse.
