Training
Trainer and horsemanship coach at T & A Ranch, the owner of her own lesson and horsemanship business, Awakenings Horsemanship, she is excited to merge her program with the amenities offered at the ranch.
Ashley approaches her work with a dedicated whole-horse mentality, meaning that she looks at the entire horse in any situation. She realizes that a horse must be soft and balanced physically, mentally, and emotionally before it can form a solid relationship with its human. Offering more than 30 years of experience and a continuing drive to sharpen her own knowledge, she is here to help you navigate your own horsemanship journey.
Her experiences in the horse world are unique and varied, providing you with a variety of services to suit your own goals and skill level. Starting out in the hunter/jumper and dressage world, she competed steadily for 15 years. And then, 12 years ago, she realized she craved something deeper – a way to get to the mind of the horse, ensuring a soft, balanced, and fair partnership. Ever since, she’s committed herself to studying the western horsemanship philosophies of great Vaquero horseman such as Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, and Buck Brannaman. She has also had the fortune to be mentored by very fine horsemen who have studied directly with these great men, helping her forge her own way in the school of foundation horsemanship. Ashley still personally rides both dressage and western on a daily basis, and incorporates low-level jumping into her routine because she fully believes that good horsemanship is good horsemanship, regardless of the discipline. You’ll find one of her biggest passions is bridging her philosophies of horsemanship with the individual goals of her students.
Whether you want to better your riding ability on a lesson horse or improve your relationship with your own horse, Ashley can help you gain the knowledge, confidence, and technical skills necessary to reach your goals. Her services include lessons, colt-starting, horse training, confidence-building, and equine-assisted calm assertiveness training.
