Description:
Horses are non-judgemental, patient and compassionate animals that have an instinctive ability to mirror human emotions. They are the ultimate communicators, teachers of the direct relationships between action and reaction; intent versus impact. They react to our body language with consistency, using their body language to communicate to us their enjoyment or irritation in the moment that they feeling.
EFT sessions are private only. During such time we do basic things with the horse such as grooming, weighing and assessing horse health, grazing them on lead, taking them for walks in-hand (on lead) while talking about horses and life. Depending on the individual, if a person gets to a point where the idea of riding becomes a goal, we can incorporate into sessions, riding and learning how to control the horse and why we do what we do because of how horses understand us. Through the horse, a person becomes adept at handling situations with confidence versus being taken for a ride. There is true interaction between horse and rider, not a follow the leader experience.
In order to provide cognitive behavioural treatment and exposure-based therapy that is specific to the individual client, we spend time learning about horse behaviours (while simultaneously grooming, health, leading etc.) through talking and observation of the individual horse as well as the herd then we relate our observances to human interactions. When a person does something with a horse (i.e. asking it to step forward), there is an immediate response and often not the response we are looking for so therefore we change our method to get the response we are seeking from the horse.
Our EFT practices are individualized and guided by an individuals specific difficulties so there is no outlined step-by-step procedure, no specific goals for people to reach to feel that they have passed.
Success is measured by the persons experiences helping them in their daily lives, a lessening of anxiety periods and growing enthusiasm for living happily. We often delve into coping mechanisms to utilize when anxiety or depression is encroaching using the horses behaviours as examples.
