A friend and I have started a nonprofit horse program for youth and adults alike. This program started earlier this month and we plan to grow based on the interest of the people in the program. You are welcome to bring your own horse or use one of ours.
Both programs work as small group lessons and combine both classroom and arena time.
The beginner course teaches how to ride, groom, and take proper care of horses.
The intermediate course goes into different mounted sports such as speed events, working cows, and extreme trail. If you are bringing your own horse we will coach you on how to train it for the sports.
We meet 1x per week on Saturdays. We are located approx 15 miles East of the Security Widefield area. Don't let the distance discourage you, if you are a ways North, as we a planning to get people together for carpooling.
Feel free to come check us out, you are more than welcome to come watch us to make sure that this is something that you want to do.
The cost is a $65 annual fee and $15/per ride if using our horses. If you are bringing your own horse $10 per ride. Veterans will receive a $5 discount on the rides.
Our combined credentials include training for and competing in pro rodeo, extreme cowboy racing, barrel racing, reining, cutting, sorting, western pleasure, and colt starting.
Q. What do I need in order to bring my own horse?
A. We require a current coggins, to be sound, and for the horse to be safely rideable around other horses and people. Dangerous horses are not allowed.
Q. If this is a nonprofit, why do you charge fees?
A. Horses require a lot of money to maintain, $100/mo to feed, $40-$100 every 6 weeks for farrier, when vet bills occur they are often $500+, We currently have 17 horses for the program, and in addition to the program horses, we occasionally take in rescue horses as well. We are also in the process of building an indoor arena, and construction takes a lot of money.
Q. How can I contribute?
A. If you have horse experience, we could use some volunteers for our beginner program, in addition we can always use help cleaning stalls, with the construction of horse shelters, and construction of the indoor arena. Donations of hay, building materials... are also greatly appreciated.
