JOB PURPOSE: To work with the stables team to provide exemplary care to the horses housed in our facility and the best experience and education possible for WilsonÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s students.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES: Assist in providing professional care for up to 70 horses including but not limited to cleaning stalls daily, feeding, turn in/out, maintaining facility and paddock cleanliness, basic maintenance and fence repairs, grooming, giving medications, applying bandages and other first aid and follow up veterinary care. Follow the direction of the Assistant and Stable manager as well as senior staff with a positive attitude. Riding may become part of the job but should not be expected.
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ At least one year professional experience and a bachelor in equine or related field is preferred.
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Candidate must have solid horse handling and basic care experience
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Willing and teachable spirit
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Basic computer skills
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Ability to always exhibit the professionalism required to mentor students and work in an educational environment
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Ability to follow directions completely and exactly
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Good communication skills and desire to be a positive member of the team
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Must be able to safely operate a tractor and basic farm/lawn equipment
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Must be available holidays and weekends
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Must have reliable transportation and live less than 45 minutes away.
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Candidate must be able to recognize early sign of potential equine illness and recognize lameness
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Ability to remain calm in emergencies and adverse conditions
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Ability to handle fractions horses calmly, quietly and appropriately
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Ability to work efficiently with or without supervision
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Must be able to lift over 50 pounds on a regular basis
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Must be able to work 10 hour days in extreme environments, all seasons performing physical labor
Ã¯Æ’Â¼ Must be able to walk, jog, run on uneven surfaces and stay on feet all day for ten hour work days.
