Rose stands at the top of her breed height, around 12hh, but we havent officially measured her. She is a shy horse because the breeder never handled her much and she had little exposure to people before I bought her. Her price reflects her lack of training. I am beginning a breeding program for Caspian Horses and when I bought Rose, I also bought her full sister and mother. But Rose was not quite ready for breeding. She was barely 3 years old when I introduced her to the stallion and she took no interest (she is now 4).... (read more) She could be used as a broodmare or make a cute cart pony. This breed is very hardy and has a lot of endurance. She could also make great childrens mount, but keep in mind, Caspians are a hot-blooded breed, so she would be best suited for experienced children. Photos and video are available!
What is a Caspian Horse?
Once believed to be extinct, the Caspian is believed to be the most ancient breed of horse and the foundation breed for other well-known desert breeds: the Arabian, and Akhal-Teke. The breed was rediscovered by an American-Iranian aristocrat near the Caspian Sea in Iran. She risked everything she had to preserve them and founded the breed. A small number of these horses were imported into Europe in the 70s and from there, to the USA in 1994. The Caspian Horse is listed as critically endangered status by the Livestock Conservancy Organization.
