Gus is a sweet horse who has been my great friend for five years now. I am moving to Pittsburgh with my family, and, unfortunately, we cannot keep him with us.
He is not necessarily a calm horse, but he is very kind. When let lose in the pasture he hicks out his heels then gallops off. For the most part, he is very good on the ground. He does not spook easily. You can tell he is looking out for whoever is on his back or next to him.
He is actually shy around a lot of people or around new people, but when he bonds with you he is very trusting. He even lets me lay on him as he lies down. He loves to be groomed and petted. Sometimes I think he is just an over-sized puppy.
I do not actually know what his formal training is in, but it seems to me he has a fair amount of experience with barrels. He does have arthritis in his back hocks, so he should not be vigorously ridden by an adult or heavier person. I think he would make a fantastic beginner barrel horse for a ten year old child. He turns very sharply very well, and he circles obstacles easily.
If you have any questions or want more pictures, please do not hesitate to email me. I will only consider placing Gus in a good home.
