Vela is an unregistered QH mare. Her previous owner bred her and she foaled out well as a 3 yo. Excellent on trails, w/j/l, not spooky. Ridden in rough terrain, steep hills, thunderstorms, wind storms, into water, across streams, on sand, near roads etc. tons of miles and long all day rides. Great with dogs and around wildlife. Independent and calm, usually quiet and will go away from other horses easily. Never bolted. She'll lead or bring up the rear and doesn't speed toward home. She's good with gates, leg yields and sidepasses. Great stop. Super responsive to leg and hand aids, very soft mouth.
Quiet in the trailer and loads fairly easily. Stands tied well. Went out in the snow this winter and pulled kids around on a sled for the first time. No spooking, acted like a work horse. Can sit for a good month in a field and then get right on her and ride out without any fussing. Have done a lot of playing with her, she's got a great mind and she never has to look at something scary twice before she's over it.
Needs some more work in the arena, good walk/jogging in circles and whatnot, but lope needs some more work to develop rhythm and balance. Can get excited when she gets unbalanced.
Love this little mare, she's perfect for the long walk/jog mountain/trail rides I've usually used her for. She's been barefoot her whole life and her feet hold up pretty well to a medium amount of riding, though I did end up getting hoof boots when I was riding her almost every day this past summer. If I could, I'd keep her but I'm going to university in May.
