Manny is a retired sulky racehorse. We have owned him since October 2003 and have enjoyed 10 wonderful years with him. His owner is getting older and Manny still thinks he's a youngster so his owner is looking to free lease him locally to an intermediate or experienced rider that can give him the attention and exercise he desperately needs. He has impeccable ground manners from the many years at the track, his legs are clean, he has no health or physical issues, he trailers well, stands quietly in the cross ties, is good for the farrier and the vet. His feet trimmed every 12 wks, he does not require shoes, and we would have our Farrier come to your facility or home while he is under lease to tend to his trimming Unless a Long Term Lease Agreement is made.
Manny can be ridden or driven. He does need an experienced driver to harness him and drive him as he is very strong and very fast under harness. When he retired he was one of only 13 Standardbreds that raced Without Hobbles, he has a natural pace.
We ride him western, mainly on back roads, ATV Trails, Tractor Paths in between fields and around the yard here. He can be a real handful to mount if you don't show him you are the boss right off the bat, if you have one ounce of doubt he'll know it and try to prance around so you can't mount.
Now... as we all know that is easily solved with a handy helper to hold him, a good swing up, or tricking the old boy by tying up one foot so he can't go anywhere. Either way he is all horse and does need an knowledgeable horse person to work with him.
Once on his back, Manny will actually settle right down to business and walk right off the farm. He has a fast walk and tends to lead if your in a group. He doesn't mind waiting for the others to catch up or circling back. He will ride 10-12 miles on any given day without any problem. His muscles do need to be brought back as he hasn't been ridden regularly in the past few years, at most he has been ridden once a week in the spring, summer and fall of last year accept when we had friends to ride with us in a group and then he was ridden 2-3 times in a week.
Manny does not "Pull" he is only a pleasure driver. So please don't inquire if you are looking for a pulling horse. No Horse Dealers Please, we are not looking to sell him at this time.
We will ask all potential candidates to come out and meet him, work with him a bit and get to know him and then ride him before signing a Lease Agreement.
Manny is a big part of our family so the owner would also ask that she either be kept up to date with pictures on Facebook or Email and that she be allowed to come and see him every once in a while. She is on oxygen and in a wheel chair so she would always call ahead of time...
She just doesn't want to see her boy just sitting in the pasture when she knows he thrives on being worked and has so much more still to offer. With the right rider and routine riding Manny could easily become an advanced beginner/intermediate rider horse. With some training he could easily be entered into low level shows walk/trot classes. He is very smart and with the right hand guiding him he could do great things and make his mom proud, well she is proud of him, but it would make her heart happy to see him succeed in a new career.
We do not have a horse trailer.
