Additional Comments:
Barn Name: Calli Breed: Arab X Height: approx 14hh (will measure) Age: 13 y/o Gender: Mare Colour: Chestnut Health: Appears to have allergies to ragweed (cough, runny nose, puffy/itchy eyes), Previous owner said she does well on ZEV. Healthy Otherwise Lameness: None - although she did have an old crack in her front right hoof that was repaired, it went right up to her coronet band and she also has an old scar on her hind right leg that causes her to be a little bit stiff in the winter) Vices: None Known Personality: Friendly. Easy to Catch, Lead, Groom, Tie, Trim, Trailer, etc. Good with other horses, ponies and donkeys! Low end of pecking order. History/Training: Her previous owners originally bought her from a place where she was used as a Camp/Lesson/Trail Pony, she was in rough shape. they brought her home and gave her lots of TLC (that was 4 years ago). Their daughter (now 11) has enjoyed riding her over the past few years, doing ringwork, jumping and trails. She is quick at the canter and can spook easily so not suitable for a beginner. she needs someone to remind her to lower her head when she leads off for a canter. Calli has a very soft mouth and sides and so we have only ever used a snaffle, and soft legs, she moves off your leg extremely well. UPDATE: my volunteer (125lbs) tried to ride her and she wanted nothing to do with even letting her get on, I am going to chat with her previous owners and I will update you shortly. Perhaps Calli perfers a lighter rider. UPDATE : her previous owner said calli has never misbehaved like that and that she was always reliable and quiet to ride, and has no issues with mounting. so we will try again. I have attached some riding photos below forwarded to me by her previous owners. Future/Suitability: Light Pleasure Riding, Trails, Companion, Pet Adoption Fee/Purchase Price: Reduced to $500 or best offer WE CAN'T HELP MORE HORSES UNTIL WE FIND HOMES FOR THE ONES THAT ARE HERE - SO IF YOU HAVE AN EXTRA SPACE, EXTRA FEED AND LOTS OF LOVE PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING CALLI. WE ARE HOPING HER REDUCED ADOPTION FEE WILL HELP HER FIND A NEW HOME! Current Status: Located at HCW in Cameron, ON - Available for Adoption/Sale or Fostering/Free Lease (Until Adopted). Company / Facility:
Heaven Can Wait Equine Rescue - Heaven Can Wait Equine Rescue is located in Cameron, Ontario, Canada - approx 1.5 hours NE of Toronto, just 10 minutes North of Lindsay. This Equine Rescue was started by Claire Malcolm in 1997 to help save horses and ponies from slaughter, and take in any unwanted horse or pony and find them a new, loving home. Not all Horses at HCW are old and lame, or come from abusive/neglective situations, some come from private individuals who want to find a good home for their horse, but don't have the time or knowledge to sell it privately, but don't want to send it to an auction, so they send them here to HCW to find a good home. As you know horses that end up at auctions do have a chance to get bid on by a caring family home, but they also risk the chance of being bid on by a bad home or worse, the meat man.
HCW has found loving new homes for over 700+ equines in the past 12 years (& has even helped find new homes for a few donkeys, pigs, goats, cats & dogs along the way!). |
