Tonto" (8 years old) was bought a few months ago for a 2nd horse for the family who currently owns him. Now that the other kids do not have interest in riding, he needs to go to a permanent home.
He is currently being ridden by a "confident beginner". The day after he was purchased, the girl rode him around town by herself! Within a week she took him to the local Open show and won a 3rd place in a horsemanship pattern class against 6 other horses, and it was quite possibly his first time at a horse show.... (read more) He is great on the trails, but can be buddy sour if riding in a group. He is not spooky, and is VERY flashy. He knows his leads, and has a GREAT STOP! Just sit and say whoa.
He stands PERFECT for the farrier, has great hard feet, but currently is shod on all 4. We found he isn't fond of teeny tiny 2 horse straight loads, probably since he is a BIG boy, standing at 15.1 hands. However, he will load in a slant load and back out very calmly also. VERY sound. Just 1 big horse with great bone & substance. Would be perfect for a parade horse or queening horse with more training. (He doesn't know spins yet). We were told he had done some roping before, maybe that's where he got the really good brakes?? :)
(FUN Background info):
He was on set for Johnny Depp in the "Lone Ranger" movie, then the director thought he was too "flashy" for the screen and that he'd take away the attention from Johnny Depp, so they cut him from the cast and used the old paint horse instead, hence the name "Tonto"! :)
He is a SUPER easy keeper...just show him food and he will keep the weight on. At 15.1 hands when measured, but he is more uphill and so he seems even taller.
