Sorrel ~12.2 hh Quarter Pony Gelding, born April 1998
Recommended for a rider 8 to 13 years old (due to size and confidence level). He is a great pony, but our family has outgrown him.
Junior is nicely trained, neck reins, and does a great job most of the time. He has a very infrequent lapse in judgment, which seems to happen if his rider is constantly pulling on his mouth. He has not bucked, but has reared up a couple times when someone hangs on his mouth for too long.
He is very good for a child that has ridden for a year or two, but like most ponies, may take advantage of a first-time rider and walk to the gate or to the nearest adult. He also eventually gets tired of having his mouth pulled on by a child that uses the reins as a method to "hang on" to him.
I have forms indicating he has earned at least 14 points with AQPA, but have not inquired to learn whether the points were actually recorded/filed.
In 2012, we rode Junior out on pastures/hayfields many times, and he did great. He has behaved very well, which is probably because the kids are now 9 and 13, so they don't hang on his mouth like they did when they were younger.
