Additional Comments:
Our colt by Sunriver was born on April 24th, 2009. He stands 15.3 hands. He was given some additional time to grow and mature during his two year old year and will return to training this spring.
Sunriver, a full brother to grade one winner, Eclipse Champion Three Year Old Filly and Older Filly and Mare Ashado, only had the opportunity to produce one crop of foals due to his untimely death at the age of six. However, his foals are making the most of their sire's short career. Sunriver is already the sire of Weemissfrankie, who scored in the $250,000 grade one Oakleaf Stakes, is one of the favorites for the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Sunriver was a grade one winner himself, scoring in the Hollywood Turf Cup at the age of four. He was a grade two winner at three in winning the Peter Pan Stakes. He also placed in both the Belmont Stakes and Florida Derby.
Our Sunriver colt's dam is Lettertotheeditor, whose half sister, stakes winner Galadriel, produced grade two placed Peisinoe. His second dam, Enchanted Spell, produced grade one winner El Brujo along with stakes placed runners Manitoba Miss and Volio. His third dam, Dame Mysterieuse, is a grade two winner and produced group three winner/group two placed Barn Five South.
Our Sunriver colt is a registered New York bred. NYRA recently announced major purse hikes for the upcoming Belmont and Saratoga meets. Stakes purses during the 56-day Belmont spring meet will increase $1.9 million, or 26.6%, to $9.05 million in 2012, while stakes purses during the 40-day Saratoga meet will increase $2.85 million, or 27%, to $13.35 million in 2012. Purses for overnight races, including overnight stakes, will increase $8.7 million during the Belmont spring meet and $7.7 million during the Saratoga meet, NYRA officials said. Average daily purses—overnights and stakes combined—will be $620,000, up from $430,000, at Belmont, and $930,000, up from $670,000, at Saratoga. The upstate New York racetrack will easily have the highest daily average purse distribution in North America. Our Sunriver colt will earn the partnership up to an additional 20% of the purse when running first, second, or third when running in races for a claiming price of $30,000 or more.
