SALE PENDING as of 4/1/08 ...Red is a retired racehorse, but you would not know it! We affectionately call him Elephant bc he is so big and slow. I am posting this for a friend and she wants him to go to a good home. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING AND HIGHLY CONSIDER IF YOU CAN HANDLE HIM IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A HORSE FOR RIDING! AS FOR COMPANION HORSE, HE IS NO TROUBLE AT ALL... She does not have the time for Red that he deserves. He is being offered as a companion or for someone who is an experienced horse person. Red has what we call a "tick". He has it in the pasture and in the ring. He will throw his head up and down while he is working (or just standing there) as if he has voices in his head! It is not a constant tick. It comes and goes. Sometimes he does it only once, other times he looks like and idiot, doing it three times or more! The vet has no clue, we have checked him inside and out. It may be from lack of exercise, maybe boredom, but I don't think it is. He recently has become worse with the ticking and it is a miserable ride. This is why he is offered as a companion horse. If someone is familiar with this ticking and they can handle him, then he is perfectly healthy to ride. He needs to lose a little weight, so right now he is the definition of an elephant! He is a sweet horse otherwise. He will not tie, he will stand when "ground tied". Is very cautious of kids around him when he is being groomed and is an easy keeper... might say too easy (hence his weight!) He is a BIG puppy dog. I would give his temperament on the ground a 1 and a high 6 when you're in the saddle, just simply because of his constant ticking. His owner LOVES him but does not have the time to exercise him and she feels bad bc she believes he can be a great trail horse, even jumper with some constant exercise. She has had him over jumps before in the past. He is primarily used as a trail horse now and has been worked in the round pen lately to help lose some weight. He will go english or western.
