Sonny is a versatile and well-trained horse who has a lot to offer under saddle, both in the arena and on the trails. He has smooth gaits and transitions, easily collects or lengthens his stride, moves well off of leg pressure, neck reins, and stops on a dime. This horse is versatile enough for the show ring and has been shown successfully on the B circuit and at the state fair by a youth rider. He excels on the trails and willingly leads or follows, goes over bridges, and goes through water. Sonny is sound and healthy and is up-to-date on his vaccinations, shoeing, dental care, and deworming. He is great with other horses, cows, and dogs. Although Sonny is uncomplicated under saddle, he needs a confident handler on the ground. He has excellent showmanship skills, but will take advantage of someone who is tentative or easily intimidated. With inexperienced handlers, he has exhibited mouthy behavior, crowding, occasional nipping, and pushiness. The behavior seems to escalate once he knows the handler is intimidated. Sonny is easily corrected, is well-behaved, and responds well to natural horsemanship groundwork when the handler is confident and skilled. We believe that Sonny has a lot to offer and will make a great riding partner for a person who is assertive and confident in their ground leadership skills. He has always been a joy to ride! A Youtube video is available under his registered name.
