Additional Comments:
"Ebony and Ivory's Charm" aka "Leia" - measured 16hh, black/white tobiano Spotted Saddle Horse mare foaled May 2002. Double registered SSHBEA and NSSHA.
This mare has been trail ridden EXTENSIVELY since she was started at 18 months (by us) - all over Florida and middle TN. She has been shown a bunch (SSHBEA Sport Horse primarily - she is a Reserve World Champion in Sport Horse and 2 of her offspring have won World/Res. World Champion titles in Sport Horse as well), given riding lessons, ridden in parades, and carried flags at beginning of shows. She is about as broke and experienced as they come. She will ride bareback, English or Western, is a nice little jumper (although she does test a new rider over jumps - nothing dangerous, just tries to run out - will jump about anything easily if she is made to.), runs barrels/poles really well, and will ride any position in a trail ride. Neck reins/backs. Good for farrier, trailers well, and easy to bathe. Clips (even ears) without a twitch.
The last few years we've been using this mare primarily as a broodmare because we have so many young horses that need the work - this is the main reason she is being offered for sale. You can pull her out of the pasture after weeks or months without being ridden, put a beginner on her and go trail ride. Leia goes barefoot and has great feet but has been shod a time or two before.
She is currently in foal (vet-checked) to our homozygous black and white TWHBEA stallion, General Hector, and is due March 2012. She is used to riding right up until foaling and will also ride without any trouble with a foal on her side. This will be her 5th baby. She is a super easy breeder (never one time had to do a re-breed on her), an awesome mother and very very easy keeper. She throws beautiful foals that have her size and awesome conformation, as well as color - she has produced almost all homozygous colts. We wean foals from this mare at 3 months - they are huge by that time and she is ready to be done nursing them too. Her foals also have always sold as weanlings for good prices. After selling her 2012 baby you will only have $1500 into this mare - based on the prices we have gotten for all of her colts - which is an outrageously low price for a horse like this.
This mare is only offered for sale because with all the training and experience she has she should be out being used, not just sitting around having babies. All of us here prefer to ride the younger, greener horses - we prefer a challenge!! ;-)
