"Shadow"
Is a 7yr old Bay Quarter Horse gelding. *UTD on Coggins/shots/farrier*
He's a child friendly horse, very easy going, bomb proof, goes barefoot, rides Western/English/bareback (Though Western is his highlight - I did train him to English in 2009 - and have also started him on small jumps).
Shadow has been a trail horse for the last couple years, but does have experience as a rodeo horse. (barrels, reining, slid-stop, poles, goat tying - he did it all - but his last owner was selling him, due to the fact that he was to "slow" for her - as she was getting more into barrels, and he didn't see the point to "fly through them" like she wanted - so she moved on to a more advanced horse).
Shadow only has one vice - he crow-hops. At a walk/trot he will NEVER try, but if you move into a canter - he will do some little crow-hops. He can be lunged before riding - but please note they don't always get them out. He's beginner safe at a walk/trot and on trails. He can also follow any horse - and if they run... he's very willing. So please note if you are considering Shadow for your daughter/son that is a complete beginner, he would not be right for them. He is a safe/calm horse - but NOT at a canter.
Shadow is used as a "pony rides" horse, and can be walked around on lead for hours - stands perfectly still for mounting (or when you are helping a young child mount). He's had all ages on him, and won't do a thing till he's told.
His current owner is a 14yr old girl, who (though she has experience) can be quite timid around horses - as she's had some nasty falls before she bought him. Shadow is the perfect horse for her, but she's fallen in love with our TN Walker - and decided she'd like to sell Shadow, and buy herself a gaited horse. (I'm still sticking with my Appy!).
Shadow has traveled throughout NC/SC for trail riding. Can stay overnight on a tie-out, will cross water, jump logs, climb hills - and if you get bored of your saddle - he'll ride bareback (with/or without bridle).
He's used to fire (blacksmith in our family), all sorts of animals (live on a farm), guns (target practice on weekends), four wheelers (passed them on trails, at w/t/c), sudden noises, young kids running at him, pasture pals, traffic (ridden on road ALL the time - and also shares a fence line beside the road), stall/run-in-shed/pasture (can do any), and much more!
He would be a perfect as...
- A lesson horse for beginners (at w/t only)
- A lesson horse for more advanced riders (can also do English/jumping)
- A Trail Horse
- A horse for Camps
- A horse for a rider who wants a calm/easy going horse - but is advanced enough to not mind the crow-hops
- Starter into the rodeo
- Pony Rides horse
- Much More :)
**Though he is registered with AQHA - we do NOT have papers on hand - and they will not be available**
