If you are looking for an adorable and friendly project, you definitely want to come and meet Ransom!! Ransom was one of over 100 horses saved 3 years ago from a huge Hill County cruelty seizure. He arrived at Passion Horse Ranch as an untouched yearling, mostly starved, completely distrustful, and totally scared. He was a walking skeleton when we first saw him... Since then, he has been fed, loved, and trained, and has positively thrived!! He looks to be foundation bred; stocky, athletic, and fast; but there is no way to know his background.
Ransom is a beautiful deep sorrel color, he will be 4 in the spring, and he stands about 14.2h. He was adopted at 18 months old by a gentleman who's grandson had taken an interest in horses, and he was green broke to ride at 2, bitless and using Natural Horsemanship Methods. Since then, the grandson has developed other interests that don't include horses, and Ransom has sat unridden since mid-summer. He will probably have to be restarted under saddle, (or at the very least he'll have to have 30 days put on him), but the foundation is there and solid, especially his ground manners.
Ransom is very fast, super agile, and extremely athletic. He's also wicked smart, ultra gentle, and exceptionally loving. He will make an awesome 4H project, or a high school rodeo, cutting, reining, playday or barrel horse with some specilaized training. He'll also make an outstanding trail horse. Ransom leads, loads, ties, stands for grooming, tacking, and mounting, is good with his feet, and stands for baths and fly spray. He was very smooth and easy to ride the last time he was ridden, very light, responsive, and controllable. His transitions were a little choppy, but that's just lack of miles not ability.
Ransom's owner is asking $800 for him, but mostly he just wants to insure that Ransom has a good and loving home because of his rough and traumatic start. He will consider less to the right forever home, but please don't ask us to give Ransom away. His story makes him unique and his temperament, personality, and athleticism make him an outstanding value.
