Pistol was bred, raised and trained by us. She wants attention and will come running to you in the pasture. She loves being groomed and will return the favor by giving you a rub down with her upper lip while you massage her with a rubber curry comb. She has been handled correctly on a daily basis from birth and has perfect ground manners and complete trust in people.

We hauled her in a trailer with her dam as a foal and have been hauling her to the trails weekly since August. She loads and unloads from a trailer quietly and without hesitation and will ride relaxed and eat her hay while hauling. She cross ties in the barn and will also stand tied to the trailer. She received her first bath as a foal and is comfortable with bathing even while you give her a complete shampoo. She picks up all of her feet easily and will stand quietly for the farrier. She is currently barefoot, but will be shod before her first endurance ride.

Her training went as smooth as expected. She lowered her head and opened her mouth for her first bridle with a bit. She also stood perfectly still while we saddled her and mounted for the first time. Pistol has been ridden by several different women in our barn and is a favorite with them. Pistol loves the trail and is always eager to go and prefers to lead. She rarely spooks on the trail and always has a happy expression on her face. From the start her pulse rate was consistently about 10 beats below most of our horses with over a year of conditioning at all speeds. We start all of our horses on the trail at a 6 mph pace. Her pulse was often below 60 at the walk and in the upper 80s at the trot. Carrying a featherweight rider, on her first ride at an 8 mph pace (8 miles in 1 hour), her pulse never went above 125 on an uphill canter and was in the low 90s at the trot. At the end we dismounted, dropped the bit and walked about 100 ft up a hill and her pulse was 53 as soon as she reached the top. She already drinks from ponds and creeks on trail and eats whenever she has the chance. With her pulse and the way she eats and drinks and with continued conditioning and correct training, she will make a dynamite endurance horse for a smaller rider. Both her sire and dam are 50-mile endurance horses with a prior history of doing great in the Class A show ring.

Her new owner should be 5ft 4in or less and weigh 135 or less (light weight or feather weight endurance rider). If you want to learn the sport of endurance and live in the DFW area, she is available on a lease arrangement in our barn. We will continue to train her and teach you the sport of endurance, including riding with you in your first few competitions.
