Blacky is a 20 yr young Dark Bay Gelding. He was used by his previous owners as a childrens' horse and seems to enjoy the slower speeds. He is very calm at all paces, but enjoys a calm walk and easy trot. When getting him to lope you really have to get after him, only because he wants to be lazy and not do it. I use leg pressure to cue and he seems to be comfortable with that verus tuggin on the reins. We have ridden him in a snaffle and a hackamore, either way he responds well. We have only had Blacky for a few months but while we have had him he has been used on the ranch to check fences, move cattle, and be our babysitter horse. He is great with other horses; geldings or mares and has yet to shy from anything. We feel that Blacky can go anywhere and do anything and be confident to take care of any level rider.
