Additional Comments:
Duncan is a handsome, 12 year old, 14+ hand sorrel QH/Arab cross who is super versatile! With his previous owners, Duncan was shown at State Fair and other local 4-H and open shows in reining and western pleasure, however for this past season we have shown him English with great success. (Duncan placed 1st in showmanship, 2nd in hunter under saddle). We purchased Duncan as a confidence builder for a 14 year old rider who was in need of a slow and steady mount that we knew she could comfortably show. Duncan definitely fit the bill! He loves to turn his charm on in the arena for sure, and he was so gentle and patient with her! Duncan has also started jumping and is learning the basics of adjusting strides, combinations. He seems to really enjoy the longer strides of english and also seems to enjoy learning jumping. His canter is not as slow as your typical western lope, but a longer stride and more forward. He does adjust his strides with only a light hand and half halt. Duncan truly has a sense of natural striding. Duncan would best be suited for a novice rider who is a strong walk/trot and confident with horses on the ground, or an intermediate rider. I would think that a rider who can tack his or her own horse with minimal assistance and also looking to enter into the 2nd or 3rd year of 4-H or Pony Club would be a good fit. Duncan is such a pleasure to ride for his forward and smooth gates, and also has a lot to offer in the confidence building department. He is probably not the horse that many perceive as a first pony/horse for a very young child.
