"Higgy" has been in professional, full-time dressage training for the past six years. During his show career (2003-2009) he has competed and placed with several young riders at the USDF Region 3 Championships at Training, 1st, 2nd and 3rd level. Higgy has consistently scored in the mid-high 60's, often beating the bigger, fancier warmbloods. Higgy has won numerous local championships (GDCTA) and highpoint awards, and he qualified his rider for the USDF Junior Seat Medal Finals in 2006. He has a great work ethic and loves to perform in the show arena. He has three very nice, correct gaits, and he consistently scores 7's and 8's on his trot extensions and lateral work. A perfect gentleman around kids, Higgy was even used as a lesson horse and vaulting pony for 5 year-olds!! In addition to his outstanding dressage career, Higgy has proven himself as a willing jumping partner. Although not the focus of his training, Higgy has been jumped, both stadium and cross-country, throughout his career. He is also at home on the trails, and he will happily hack out by himself or with a large group. So far, Higgy has helped three young riders move through the lower levels of dressage, even earning one rider her USDF bronze medal in 2009. He is light in the bridle and goes well in either the snaffle or the double. Higgy would be suitable for a young rider or amateur looking for a safe and sane show partner. Higgy has a large 14.3h frame, and he easily carries small adults (the rider in the photos is 5'5"). He is an easy keeper, has no soundness or colic issues, and has great feet.
