We purchased Smokey two years ago as a six year old, from the canner buyer at the auction. He was literally headed for the canner truck, so we decided to see if he would be a fit for our son who had lost his old faithful gelding. He has been a great horse for him and will go anywhere you point him, but they aren't the fit that my son is looking for. He is a QH/Arab cross, so he'll go all day and never wear out. We have led string with him, though we've never gotten a rope under his tail so we don't know what he'd do there. He has been in steep country with lots of downfall to navigate and never gets out of sorts. We have found that he doesn't like to be saddled in the rain, but he clips, loads, shoes and tolerates a ten year old hanging all over him and goofing off while riding him (as the picture shows). I do suggest a rider with some experience, because he is very quick and can turn out from under you if your not paying attention, but we have had kids to adults on him and he handles great. If you are looking for an all around adventure horse with speed stamina and agility then this is the horse for you.
