NAME: RIOBREED: Grade Quarter Horse MareCOLOR: SorrelHEIGHT: 14.1hhDATE OF BIRTH: 2004PRICE: $3,000**When Rio starts showing in November/December 2009 - her price will increase significantly**Rio is your talented show pony of tomorrow! She shows an incredible talent, work ethic, sensitivity, "can-do" attitude and all the while, she has never got mean, marish or unsafe. When she has more show mileage on her, she will be the one to beat! I adore Rio and she is such a fun little girl. If she was over 16hh, I would not sell her. I love her "can do" attitude, her energy, her zest for work and how easy she is to train. She is now working in a much more relaxed and mature way, getting correct lead canter on both sides, her lateral work is excellent and she is truly my favorite horse to train. Rio is a grade, quarter horse mare! She is sweet and gentle to handle on the ground. We are currently training Rio in the basics of classical dressage. She stands quietly in x-ties for bathing, grooming, tacking up, wrapping, vet, farrier etc. She also stands obediently whilst being mounted and dismounted. She also loads easily in the trailer. She is great on the trail, although she does prefer to be the lead horse. We have put quite a lot of trail miles on her - she would be incredible as an competitive trail horse as she never seems to run out of energy or enthusiasm, yet is as safe, smooth and solid as can be! She has beautiful gaits - very athletic, rhythmic and fluid. She is very type-y of a quarter horse with a dainty head and ears, a stocky and compact body and a powerful quarterhorse hindquarter. She would make a wonderful and SAFE endurance, speed event, pony-club, 4-H, hunter/jumper or dressage pony for an intermediate to experienced child. She is not papered, and therefore not recommended as a broodmare! She is sensitive to the leg and beautifully forward going, so I would not recommend her for a very young child or complete beginner. She is very flashy. Throughout her training, she has not offered a buck, bolt or rear with any of her riders. Rio will go slow and quietly for a novice rider, or she will definitely pick up the pace for an intermediate/experienced rider. She is responding very well for dressage although her conformation may restrict how far she can go. I feel she will enjoy jumping as she likes to jump the trotting poles! She goes barefoot and has comparitively strong feet. She is trimmed on a five weekly basis.Rio gets along well with other horses ... she may bully a more submissive and smaller horse, but she is does not hold the Alpha Mare status in our pastures. She has no vices such as weaving, cribbing, windsucking, stall walking, kicking, biting, rearing or bucking. She does pin her ears when having the girth tightened, but this is largely due to the ignorance and heavy handedness of the previous owner. Hopefully, as time progresses, the ear pinning will get less and less. Rio has had no history of injury or illness whilst at our barn .. and to the best of my knowledge, nothing of note with the previous owner. I would not recommend Rio for a complete beginner unless the child was working with a professional trainer. She is definitely flashy, sassy and talented enough for a competent junior rider or small adult. At only 5 years of age, she still has some maturity and further training required. She has not been trained over jumps. At this time, the majority of her training has been flatwork (Dressage) and trail riding.VIDEO # 1: MOVEMENT IN THE ROUND PENRio is for sale to an approved home.
