Spike is approximately 8 yrs old. He is a Gelding Mule. Spike is very sure footed and is an amazing Ranch Mule. He has experience and instinct to round up cattle, he knows how to handle a larger person who can rope, or someone who just wants to traverse difficult terrain. When moving cattle, Spike will out-think his human to make sure the cows are going in the right direction, and he's quick to notice if one or two are stepping out. You can use most any saddle on him, with or without QH bars. You can jump in the saddle from right OR left, from the ground, or with a fence. He will help load cattle, other horses, or just walk into trailer by himself and is used to a wood floor in the trailer. He will stand tied as long as you want, and stays haltered. He rarely needs shoes, and his hooves need little trimming. He's never been sick or needed the vet, although he Will let you trim his feet, and poke in his ears and mess with his teeth. He can use just about any bit, although I prefer a snaffle. Spike is good with other horses/mules/jacks (and is at the bottom of the herd). He is good with dogs, chickens, farm machinery, road-traffic & can be penned & trailered with cattle. He can be kept in a pasture, or in a stall/small pen. He is a fairly easy keeper, and is happy with a job, or left in the pasture to keep the brush mowed. He does respond well to a stronger correction, and would do best with someone who will make him work, rather than let him do what he pleases. Most of the time he's laid back, occasionally he has his own agenda and needs someone who understands he can be a bit "mule-ish" at times. He has NEVER bucked or reared while riding, he is very good on difficult terrain and is the one I prefer to ride off-trail. He has None of the regular bad habits. He would do excellent on a rough trail, as well as a ranch or feedlot/salebarn.
