Additional Comments:
I purchased/rescued Oz in April 2008. He was about 400 pounds underweight, so I gave him a year off to recoup from being slowly starved to death. In April 2009, I started (re)training him under saddle. I took him to five shows this summer; four hunter and one dressage on a local circuit. We did Intro level dressage, and he scored a 60.0 on Intro B. We also did the w/t cross rail division, and he placed well enough at each show to place 4th in the year end awards for the circuit!
He has continued his training over fences, and confidently trots to any fence with just a little encouragement from his rider. He has cantered small courses of cross rails and verticals 2'3" and under. He has jumped a 2'6"-2'9" sweddish oxer. He has also had a total beginner on his back (my mother) and did excellent walking around her outdoor arena (unfenced) with her.
Oz had a hard life before I got him. He is an OTTB, raced 98 times, and hadn't had much retraining until I got him. He is very calm on the ground, anyone with confidence can do anything to him (bathe, clip, etc). He tries very hard undersaddle. He isn't hot, but is very forward and eager.
Owner doesn't have time, due to having another horse, college, and work. Although Oz is at an appropriate weight now, he is still lacking a ton of muscle due to not being worked for at least three years. I just don't have the time to work with him consistently enough to make any progress with his muscling, especially since for over a year his weight was our main concern. For lease or sale to right home, price negotiable. More pics/vids available.
My mare is having some (expensive) health issues. I am VERY motivated to get Oz in his new wonderful home by the first of the new year. Don't be shy to come meet him and then make an offer.
