OFF-SITE PLACEMENTS - How does it work?
First, the program starts by the original owner listing their horse the the Equi-Kids program of the Child Wellness Fair. The form to the right needs to be filled out - PLUS a picture of the horse must be sent to this email address.
Second, potential adopters will go through a screening process. Submitted adoption applications will be shared with the current owner to seek their approval of canidates. The current owner will be responsible for showing the horse to potential adopters if the horse still resides with them.
Third, potential adopters will visit or may just come to pick up the horse from the current owner. Equi-Kids will provide a contract to the current owner for every potential adopter who visits. If the potential adopter decides they would like to take the horse, the current owner 1) has the adopter sign the contract 2)collects a check or money order for adoption fees 3) mails the contract and adoption fee back to Equi-Kids
Finally, Equi-Kids will mail the original owner a tax deduction form for the full value of the horse. This form can be used at the end of the year for tax reporting purposes.
There is no charge to the person who is listing the horse (the original owner). However, there will be an adoption charge for the new owners. Adoption Fees are exremely important to: 1) help to pay for the care of the horses that we do have on site 2)prevent slaughter companies from trying to get "free" horses from our site 3)provide some funds for the yearly follow-up and records that we maintain. Adoption fees will vary on the factors such as age, size, training, etc... Most fees will be $500 or less making it as easy and quick as possible for horses to be placed.
The horse will remain with the original owner unless there is room at the Equi-Kids facility, until adoption.
If for some reason the horse is placed by the owner before the Equi-Kids off-site placement program can find a home, the original owner is repsonsible for notifing the program right away so the horse can be removed from this site. There is no charge, (and no hard feelings!)
Our goal is to find unwanted horses homes, not to judge those who have to give them up. We understand that in 90% of the cases the horse is actally very much wanted, but there are no resources to take care of them. Please be a responsible and caring owner. If you can not take care of your horse, let us find a family that can....
