Sterling is a 17 hand 2011 Percheron/Thoroughbred cross gelding. He is a beautiful rocking horse dapple grey with a blaze and four white stockings, as well as a white mane and tail. Sterling is a sweetheart with kind soul. He competed all of 2016 at rated and schooling events at the BN level, capping off the season with a 1st place finish on his dressage score at Full Moon Farm Horse Trials. We also had the opportunity to foxhunt Sterling with Blue Ridge Hunt and he was fantastic!... (read more) Though he is a very large horse, Sterling is a remarkably nimble jumper and very careful over fences. He is honest and jumps right around the cross country and show jumping. Sterling is a sweet and patient horse; at his first rated beginner novice, his rider's (brand new) stirrup leather broke in half over a fence, and Sterling kindly allowed Nikolaus to pull him up, take the leather off, carry it to someone he could hand it to, and then continue jumping the last half of the course with only one stirrup. This is an excellent example of Sterling's sterling personality. Sterling always wears a plain snaffle for all three phases, is easy to put together in the dressage, and makes a beautiful picture. He is a striking horse to look at, and turns heads wherever he goes, getting compliments every time he goes out. He has huge bones and straight legs, and his feet are also enormous and have excellent quality; he has only ever worn plain front shoes. Sterling has impeccable manners in all situations, and is a safe and kind horse. Though he goes when asked, his nature is to be very placid and quiet. He also has a great personality, and it is not uncommon to see him sitting around the pasture when it's just too early to get up! He also loves to drink applesauce from the squeezable containers! He is excellent on the trails and roads, and is the same horse when given a week off as he is if ridden consistently. Sterling is sound and healthy. $22,500 He is located in Augusta, WV, 28 miles west of Winchester, VA. 309-376-2144
