This is "Chance" a gelding just turning 2yrs old. He is 12+H (not quite 13h) and is built very nice. Nice small head and ears and big rear end! He is broke to ride, only jumped one time while being broke and that was all he wanted to do. He was raised right and is easy to catch and very calm and slow.
I understand he is very young (turns two in Feb.) but I did let a 6 year old ride him to break him. Last weekend a 3 year old was sat up to ride him and he just piddled.... (read more)
I am not custom to breaking a pony before two but since he was so nice and calm and the weight of the 6 year old would not hurt them I let them ride him. I am not saying this pony is a babysitter, or is perfect for all kids and I feel until they have a couple years of riding are not seasoned ponies. I will say he is going to make any kid a great pony if continued down the path we have set him. He gets along with everyone in the pasture, has been gelded since a yearling, has never been foundered or treated with a harsh hand. Isn't spooky.
He is sweet natured and willing. If taken slow like we have been going so he grows properly he is going to keep filling out. He is half Haflinger and half foundation (registered) QH so he will grow.
Chance is ridden in just a snaffle bit. I don't have pictures of my kids on him yet, it will be a bit with our busy schedule, but I have lots of clients looking for this size, breeding and demeanor in a pony so I thought I would list him and get more pics after the New Year if he lasts that long.
He does ride double and bareback and has been ridden with the pack of horses, mules, ponies etc. on small trail rides through the woods and down the highway. (By a 6 year old little girl, I will say this little girl has lots of guidance by her father and knows how to ride a horse). He just directionally reins at this time. My girls will keep riding and teaching him new skills as weather will permit.
