Welcome to Northern Lakes Farm - nestled among the glistening lakes of northwest Wisconsin. Our beautiful place is only a 75-minute drive from the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN metropolitan area but feels like a million miles from all the traffic and cars. That's because the number one form of transportation here is the smooth gaited Rocky Mountain Horse. Our primary goal is to help introduce Midwest horse people to the incredible Rocky Mountain Horse breed. We are also part of the movement to train and condition gaited horses using Natural Horsemanship. You won't find any double twisted wire mouthpiece gag bits, complicated tiedown rigs, chemicals or weights in our tack room. Instead, we look to the work of folks such as Ray Hunt, Bill Dorrance, Lee Ziegler and Liz Graves for our inspiration. We strive for forward motion, suppleness, balance and lateral movement and soft containment. You also won't need any special farriers to make our horses gait when you get them home.
