The Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses (CANTER for short) is dedicated to finding second careers for horses after the finish line. CANTER is a powerful website that provides a free horse listing service for trainers/owners and connects them with potential new owners.
CANTER Colorado is officially operating and is a presence on the grounds at Arapahoe Park. Volunteers walk the back side of the track offering to take pictures and post information on retiring racehorses up for adoption on the Colorado page of the CANTER website. Using the CANTER website allows Trainers to reach potential new owners on a national level and speak to buyers directly who inquire about horses being listed for sale. Trainers and Owners can also track the number of "hits" their horses are receiving on the listings.
Information is provided on the website for potential new owners on the adoption process, buying a horse off the track, how to view and purchase a horse, and how to transition your new horse into a second career off the the track.
